Jupiter, the largest planet in our Solar System, is a gas giant known for its massive size, vibrant cloud bands, and the iconic Great Red Spot, a storm larger than Earth. Composed mainly of hydrogen and helium, it has a diameter of about 139,820 kilometers, making it more than 11 times Earth's diameter. Jupiter is orbited by at least 95 moons, with the four largest—Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto—known as the Galilean moons, easily visible with small telescopes.
In September 2025, Jupiter will be a prominent sight in Vietnam's night sky, especially during its opposition, when it is closest to Earth and brightest. Around mid-September, it will be in the constellation Pisces, rising in the east shortly after sunset and remaining visible for most of the night. For observers in Vietnam, Jupiter will appear as a brilliant, steady point of light, outshining most stars. With clear skies, it can be spotted with the naked eye, but binoculars or a small telescope will reveal its moons and cloud bands.
